Frequently asked questions about the library

What do I do if I have lost my computer login and password?
Please check with your house secretary.  The library does not have access to login and
                 password information.
How many books can I check out at a time?
Three is a good number - with the exception of books put on reserve for  research assignments.
                 Exceptions for voracious readers apply.
How long can students check out books?
Books are checked out for two weeks.  We are happy to renew them for you, or you can renew
them yourself.  Go online to Destiny and click on the tab that says "My Info."  You will see a
list of books you have checked out and a button to click for a one-time (two week) renewal.  Tip:  If you
remember to look at the stamped date due slip in the back of each book you check out,  you
won't have to worry about overdue books  :)
Q     What is the fine for late book?
Our fine is 10 cents a day per book.  The maximum fine we charge is $2.00.
Q     How will I know if I have a late book?
A  Overdue notices are mailed out to you parents on a monthly basis. If you check the
date due slip in the back of each library book, you won't have to worry about fines.
             Tip:  Don't procrastinate!
Q      Can I check out magazines?
A  Absolutely!  The current magazines however, are kept in the library for everyone to read.
Q       Is there a charge for printing?
Yes, there is.  The first five black and white copies are free, on a daily basis.
Each additional black and white print-out is 10 cents.   Color copies are 50 cents a page
.   Tip:  Always go to  "File/ Print Preview to see how many pages are included in your document.
This will avoid wasteful printing and save you money!
What if I don't have any money and my research project is due?
A  We want you to get your work in on time.  We are happy to record an I.O.U. in our online
automation system, Destiny.  Pay us at your earliest convenience.
Q        Can I come to the library before school, during lunch, and after school?
Yes, you are encouraged to use the library as much as possible. There will sometimes be
scheduled classes doing research during lunch periods.  If the library is already filled to capacity,
there will be a sign posted on the door. Tip: Students are expected to work or read quietly.
Can I come to the library during classes?
A  Yes, but your teacher must give you a pass.  Please sign in as you enter the library and
place your pass in the heart shaped basket.  If you return to class before the end of the period, find
a librarian to validate the time you left the library. FYI ... If you are an aide, you must still
bring an official pass from the adult in charge.
Are there rules about computer use?
A  Yes, students who have school related projects have first priority.  Computers may also be
used to check grades, read the news, read ebooks, check email for school related
reasons, and access school appropriate websitesTip:  Remember to sign in at
the table at the entrance of the library .
May I bring snacks to eat while I am studying?
A   No, we only allow bottled water.
Q          How do I access the research databases from home?
Check the database link on the library webpage.  The library has user name/password sheets to
give to students with important access information.  We can't post this information on the
website.  Tip:  Remember to stop by the library help desk to get a hand-out to keep
                     by your home computer!
Does the library have a book club I can join?
